2020: Week 2

Hey, all!

How has your week been? Meeting those goals?

My week 2 was a strong one for the most part, but it was also challenging. I quickly realized my music theory skills are quite rusty; however, I did good on the quiz, so with some practice, I’m confident I can pick it back up.

Here are some goal check-ins, as well as some revelations or moments of pause that I experienced throughout the week.

  1. I don’t get to dictate how someone else grieves or for how long. Job was struggling, and I think his friends were helping him most when they were sitting with him and letting him be. I think they probably thought Job was taking too long, and I think they had good intentions. But, I don’t think they were wise. I think they wanted to have all the answers so that Job could wrap it up and end the grieving, but it doesn’t work that way. We don’t get to set the timeline for others’ storms.
  2. God doesn’t fit in my box. Elihu was the only friend that pointed to the magnificence of God. He challenged Job to think beyond the here and now and consider the wonders of God’s creation (Job 37:14). I think Elihu wanted Job to understand that God does things we can’t explain and that He does them out of love, even the tough stuff.
  3. Make time to hear from God. We have a busy world full of communication methods where we can connect with anyone at any time. While that’s a wonderful thing in some instances, the constant distraction often keeps us from connecting with the one who loves us most — God — and that’s a shame. He wants to be known, and I want to do a better job of connecting with Him.
  4. Natural minors, harmonic minors, melodic minors — I had forgotten the differences. I’d also forgotten all about the quality of intervals. The refresher was much-needed!
  5. I want a cello. Since cellos use the tenor clef, I kind of want one. That would challenge my brain in a whole new way! A brand-new clef to learn!

Overall, it’s been a good week of progress! I can’t wait to finish up Job this week and dive back into Genesis. And week 3 in music is all about rhythm and form, so that should be a fun challenge, too.

Let me know how your goals are going!
